One Deplorable who has been arrested had a dozen or so Molotov Cocktails in his car along with the obligatory gun.

With that large of a number of assailants, many of them with unscreened cases and backpacks, an unknown number possibly concealed carrying, it would seem virtually insane to operate on a premise that none of them are armed.
From there, it becomes a matter of making an educated evaluation of what your limited forces have to do against a much larger number of extremely aggressive opponents, keeping in mind your task is protecting some of the most high value assets in government.

Somewhere (sorry no link) I read an intimation that Pence was down that hallway that Babbitt was breaking into.
That could explain the lethal response to her aggression.

I too saw somewhere that the door and barricade that Babbitt was climbing through was protecting a safe escape route for the building's occupants. Having worked in security in the military she should have known what the consequences of her actions could be.

It's a good thing they have a bit more training that the average cop. Else I think many more would be dead.

I don't know if the ones gong through that window had drawn firearms but there have been a number of arrests of rioters who were charged with firearms possession inside the capitol.
