If you read the whole thread, and the comments posted early on, you'll see that the conversation evolved. My first comment was about how trust between the Flint community and the government had been destroyed, and that was as much a problem as the problem of water quality. mattkime proposed that the matter was local, and not a federal concern. I was trying to elucidate the role of the federal government, particularly the EPA, in regulating the quality of drinking water.
Surely you're aware that threads here don't always strictly adhere to the original subject line.

If they can't, then the federal government needs to sue the state for payment or to force them to fix it. Either way, Federal dollars shouldn't bail out Michigan tax payers.
Just to be clear, it was not the residents of Flint that caused this. It was a state appointed Republican who made the decision to switch from the then current river source to the more acidic lake water. THAT is the absolute cause of the problem!
The ThenGovernor made the call. He should be held personally, criminally liable for this mess!
