Does the Subscription version force you to store the vault on their servers? or can you still do a local vault?

With a subscription/team account vaults are created/stored in the cloud.

When version 7 came out, they repeatedly said that future versions were unlikely to support standalone vaults. (This, even as they also promised that they had no plans to remove support for local vaults and released a Windows version with no support for local vaults. Lots of double-messaging.)

If it's subscription/teams-only then it would appear that 1PW8 will not support standalone vaults.

Thanks, Fritz. They've got a nice life-time $79 offer, too:

Correct me if I'm wrong, but...

Doesn't non-subscription, pre-version-7, 1Password sync directly between Mac OS and iOS devices (no internet connection needed), while Enpass needs something Cloud-based, like DropBox, to sync between devices?

Enpass does need a cloud for device sync, but I read the OP as just local, which is how I use Enpass.
One still has to have other methods of backup.

I'm still on 1Password 6, works just fine. I have things set up to share passwords with my wife. I'll be forced to reconsider when 1Password 6 stops working OR when my kids join in the fun of password management.

I'm also still on 1PW 6. The only downside to it is that it doesn't work with newer versions of Safari. A mild annoyance but not a big deal. I really don't need any new features, hence my resistance to their subscription model.

I'm pretty sure 1P needed access to something like dropbox to sync between devices. I'm not sure how you would sync at all w/o some type of "cloud" access. In my case, I upgraded b/c syncing is very important. As is making sure my family uses it consistently across the board.

Also still using 6, but only on my desktop.
