Hands at your sides and bow deeply. Hold for 2 seconds. In order for it to become socially acceptable in Western culture I think I will need to get social media influencers on board with this first.

it's no different than touching a surface that may or may not be contaminated with covid. Wash your hands frequently, and don't touch your eyes or stick fingers in your mouth. I keep a pump bottle of hand cleaner in my driver's door pocket. And wash very well whenever I have access to a restroom, and as soon as I come inside at home.
I still wear a mask when I leave home too. I've watched someone die of Covid, have you?

No problem shaking hands. Or lots of other things—library books, hotel breakfasts, water fountains, subway seats—that people are still being silly about.
COVID is an airborne pathogen.

Mainly, but you know people do sneeze on things or in their hands and touch something. It is possible to transfer via contact points but no where near as likely or high a risk as originally thought. Schools have been wiping down surfaces to combat the flu for years. It does make a difference, but not as a big a difference as if the sick person wasn't there or was masked.

Depends on the other individual.
I try to gauge what their comfort level is. Being fully vaccinated and still constantly
sanitizing surfaces all day at work I feel comfortable with handshaking.
Like Fritz said above, the food service style elbow bump is always an option.
