Re: raise you hand if you can still hear 40Khz - TheCaber - 11-30-2021 Aside from the constant tinnitus, no. It's sad to hear the cilia in your inner ears dying... I think the appeal with the above product is that you are the weak link, so fool yourself if you can into thinking you hear something. Re: raise you hand if you can still hear 40Khz - pdq - 11-30-2021 Also, if you crank up either very high or very low frequencies, you probably get more harmonic (and other) distortion, which may be within your hearing range. Re: raise you hand if you can still hear 40Khz - Bernie - 11-30-2021 16k was the frequency of a CRT flyback circuit. Been awhile since I have been around a picture tube. I have a double casette deck Pioneer that records to 20k out in the Storage building. Since I have retired I no longer get annual hearing tests. My hearing was better than most but the hearing test was a joke anyway. Hearing 16k was not uncommon and quite the norm until the advent of EarPods and walkmans. :oldfogey: Re: raise you hand if you can still hear 40Khz - JoeM - 11-30-2021 On a good day I can still hear 4K Hz and I can still feel 20-40Hz in my gro-in. In practice that’s often optimistic, many adult males are hard pressed to hear 16 kHz. Re: raise you hand if you can still hear 40Khz - MartyStickle - 11-30-2021 What? Re: raise you hand if you can still hear 40Khz - freeradical - 11-30-2021 As far as I know, nobody can directly hear a 40 KHz fundamental frequency, however a 40 KHz harmonic can change the way that lower fundamental frequencies sound. This is why different types of musical instruments have different characteristic "sounds" to them, even when they're playing the same note. Re: raise you hand if you can still hear 40Khz - RAMd®d - 11-30-2021 it is very rare that any human can hear above 16k let alone 20k or 40k. That's not to say that none can. Hm. As far as I know, nobody can directly hear a 40 KHz fundamental frequency This. If somebody told me they could here this, I wouldn't call them a liar. But they'd be lying, as far as I'm concerned. however a 40 KHz harmonic can change the way that lower fundamental frequencies sound. This is why different types of musical instruments have different characteristic "sounds" to them, even when they're playing the same note. This. many adult males are hard pressed to hear 16 kHz. I'd go so far as to opine that most adult males, at least those 25 and over wouldn't be capable of hearing 16kHz. But I think 20kHz would be entirely possible for younger males, and certainly females, who's audio acuity extends beyond that of a males, in range and age. Whether or not I could ever hear content at 20kHz, I don't know, but concerts, the military, and tinnitus certainly erased any illusions that I may have entertained. |
