Steve G. wrote:
The heaviest snowfall is expected in areas farther north, like Boston and much of New England, which will be “clobbered” with between 12 and 18 inches of snow, Gilbert said.

“Boston is within the bull’s-eye of some of the worst conditions expected, and into Maine,” she said. “They’re going to have very strong winds as well, so travel is going to be very difficult.”

My son lives in Boston. But he spent 5 winters at Michigan Tech in Houghton (winter snow totals 200 to 300 inches), so he's unimpressed by this prediction.

I'm right on the dividing line of 6-12 and 12-18 inches.
Being that I'm at the lowest point of the Pioneer Valley, I'm guessing we will get only about 5-7 inches.
As I like to say, There is a dome over my town that keeps out the bad weather and the good businesses.

It was -12º this morning here in MI. As always, I'll take cold over snow any day.

I'm just the opposite! I'd rather have snow than the bitter cold.

Being close to the water, it's often true that travelling a few miles east or west means significant increase in the snow amount.

Steve,

Don't know where you're getting your info from but weather.com disagrees with you at least on the north shroe of LI near the Queens border. Expect 8 to 10 inches between Friday evening and Saturday all day. 'course, a minimal change in direction that they can't predict and the totals can change to as little as just a few inches max to over 12". Won't know until the storm actually gets here. Little M is already looking forward to playing outside in it and building a snowman.

I usually refer to Weather Underground. Here's their latest 1pm Thursday

Like other forecasts, it's been swinging back and forth

It increases as you go further east. For instance, here's what they're saying for the Stonybrook area
