Server farms at places doing rendering, in lab clusters, etc. Pretty sure Pixar will buy a hundred next week... Agreed... but 100, or even 10,000 ain't much. Orders have already slipped to May. I want one... but not Monterey... and its gonna be $3000 with a screen. (64/1 TB) $2500 for a 2020 27" iMac. 64/1TB.... but I get to run Catalina =) Re: Apple Event: Very disappointed... - Tiangou - 03-09-2022 numbered wrote: Pretty sure Pixar will buy a hundred next week... If Pixar doesn't have a hundred already, someone at Apple isn't doing their job. ...I wanna see 3d party benchmarks. Re: Apple Event: Very disappointed... - RAMd®d - 03-09-2022 I think you are right for consumers, or even prosumers. But it will go all the places MacPros were intended. Exactly. And to some who might have bought Mac Pros but didn't because of the cost of admission. Agreed... but 100, or even 10,000 ain't much. Most of those 100 or 10,000 would probably disagree. I think it's too early to cast a pall. Re: Apple Event: Very disappointed... - Billybob - 03-09-2022 I need to wait for benchmarks, but I suspect that the M1 Max will be sufficient for my uses. I'm actually happy that Apple did away with the monitor. I suspect that producing an All-in-One with the rumored 32" monitor probably would have started at $5k. I still have a couple of 30" monitors around the house that will do me fine. Currently, my M1Max MBP sings while processing image files. I think that I'll be happier, and less poor, by going with the lower-tier CPU with 64GB of ram and upping the memory to at least 4TB. But I'll wait for the benchmarks. My MBP is plenty fast enough to carry me through the short term. I saw an early benchmark that suggests that the Ultra scales linearly over the Max, which suggests that even "regular" apps like Lightroom and Topaz will show improvements with the Ultra. Thus, I may need to rethink not just memory but the CPU as well. Thus, I may need to rethink not just memory but the CPU as well. It's still a whole SoC. No upgrading internal memory/storage ever. Get however much RAM (integrated memory) you think you'll need for however long you intend to use the machine, and a reasonable SSD. Then go external for more storage. Select the M1 Max, then configure it for Ultra. You get the base Ultra, but with a 512 GB SSD - $3800. YOU SAVE AN INCREDIBLE $200!!!!!!!! |
