It's strange. I used to see him at the Comedy Store in the 1970s. I remember him saying that Mick Jagger was like a rooster on acid, and then he would do an over-the-top Jagger imitation. I was totally surprised when -- while clicking through the channels -- there he was in a suit, looking serious, and playing a detective.

I think that doing standup comedy is a real training ground for acting at some level, or at least a test for acting ability. And dramatic training seems to aid the comedy wannabes. But I don't remember seeing Belzer do comedy-like material in the dramatic roles.

Absolutely. Look at how many stand-up comedians have segued to successful acting careers over the last four decades.

I think his best role was in The Groove Tube, as half of “The Dealers”.

I did see him once walking on the upper west side, alone. but I didn't want to bug him. especially him!
