Re: More archaeology, this time images - ka jowct - 02-25-2023 Another one from the same trip. This one was in "the Badlands" according to the helpful card that was stored in the box with the carousel of slides. These landscape shots just do not want to be square. I wish I could see these places with any of the cameras I have now. Teenage me seemed to like some of the light and so forth that would make current me want to shoot the scenes. Others, not so much. ![]() Re: More archaeology, this time images - DP - 02-25-2023 Beautiful! Re: More archaeology, this time images - ka jowct - 02-25-2023 Why am I square?? Wheatfields, probably in Montana. We were on our way to Glacier. ![]() Re: More archaeology, this time images - DP - 02-25-2023 You sure it wasn't a Hasselblad? Rollei? Re: More archaeology, this time images - ka jowct - 02-26-2023 I found the Instamatic this past summer when clearing out my studio supply cabinet. Of course it's long dead, but I haven't tossed it yet. Those images were stored at my parents' house, in better conditions than they could have been (they were in carousels, inside the cartons for the carousels), but they are still a pain to clean up. The focus is pretty soft, which can be sharpened some. I don't think I had much grasp of the usefulness of holding the camera still or keeping shots level, but the softness is maybe just a limitation of the camera. The skies are not always cloudy or grey, but some of them are very dusty. Not all of them are this gnarly, fortunately. ![]() Re: More archaeology, this time images - A-Polly - 02-26-2023 Actually I really like the contrast and cool retro look of that first image! ![]() ![]() Re: More archaeology, this time images - ka jowct - 02-26-2023 Buzz wrote: There is a dead one taking up space in the closet. It belonged to the Other Human. Not sure if I could get away with recycling it on the sly. I'm also not sure I could get it down off the shelf without breaking it or my skull. Those early "portables" were hefty. |
