Re: headlight restoration - Rolando - 03-15-2023 I've been using Maguairs for years now, since my car was a year old. Headlights still look new. I do the compound once a year, but I also cover them with UV Spray after every wash. I think that is the key. https://www.amazon.com/Meguiars-G17804-Clear-Headlight-Coating/dp/B01M4RVVX6/ref=sr_1_1?gclid=Cj0KCQjw2cWgBhDYARIsALggUhpIlYOFBAo40m-JYA_awef9Xje8KUsIQpCT09eYI_88bc8EP-BNBigaAspEEALw_wcB&hvadid=587435107560&hvdev=c&hvlocphy=9028053&hvnetw=g&hvqmt=e&hvrand=13497987112463974463&hvtargid=kwd-467174439536&hydadcr=5768_9590512&keywords=meguiar%27s+clear+headlight+coating&qid=1678891340&sr=8-1 Re: headlight restoration - Fritz - 03-15-2023 from what I've watched, sanding, whether dry or wet, has to be involved to restore. Ending with a UV coating of some kind. Re: headlight restoration - NewtonMP2100 - 03-15-2023 …..how big are the headlights……??? Re: headlight restoration - Speedy - 03-15-2023 Sam’s Club. Re: headlight restoration - Thrift Store Scott - 03-15-2023 Youtuber WatchJRGo had three vehicles in desperate need of headlight restoration, so he bought all six kits available at his local O'Reilly's and compared them side-by-side, a different kit used on each headlight. The results were surprising, with one of the cheapest and easiest to use kits, Turtle Wax, doing the best job and some of the more expensive and labor-intensive kits not performing nearly as well as expected, even with the use of a powered buffer which the Turtle Wax kit didn't require. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O4MR_hfEwKI Granted these were all VERY badly fogged headlights, and a couple of the kits did much better with a second or even third application, but the Turtle Wax kit did an astoundingly good job on the first try. Re: headlight restoration - Fritz - 03-15-2023 yes it did. but looking at another vid https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iDB5U4QUdD0 it's takes a closer look, and find the sylvy the winner. Think I will go with the 3M & Maguires coating after what I've heard and seen. Re: headlight restoration - RAMd®d - 03-15-2023 Yes, it is a compound, at lest for the typical kits available over the counter at must auto shops. Yes, headlight restoration kits, are more than just rubbing compound, which was my point. UV hardened sealant makes all the difference. Polishing removes the problem, but it comes back quickly without a clear sealant. This. Some spray UV may not work, but many have. There are dozens of kits available, and some are bound to be better or worse than others. Sometime ago I mentioned a YouTube video where the author used polishing compounds and UV clear paint that gave excellent results. For those who don't care to put in the time, $50 and a guarantee seems like a good deal. My headlights started to turn but just at the top of each lens, odd. There's no Sam's near me and Costco doesn't seem to offer the service. My headlights are easily removed, but I don't have an orbital/double action sander, so Walmart may be worth a shot. Calling Walmart hasn't worked out yet. They don't accept blocked calls, maybe so they can harvest a phone number. And when I unblocked, they don't answer, two different stores, the main numbers and the Auto Care Numbers. Fortunately the LED bulbs seem to offset any mild coloration. The lenses themselves are only slightly occluded, and only at the very top. When they really need restoration, it may be time for a new car. |
