I'll give the point on the current charging infrastructure for non-Tesla vehicles being weak at the moment. Just over the last year, it's gone from fewer stations but always available, to fewer stations and always a wait. In CA, EV adoption has far outstripped charging station build out. That said, 90% of my charging gets done at home, so it's not that big of a deal.
But I will give you zero points on the "hot mess" thoughts on Hyundai/Kia. After 4 months with the Ioniq 5, I feel like Hyundai nailed it with a perfect blend of on screen controls and traditional knobs and buttons. It looks good, it's easy to read and it's not difficult to learn. The only part that needs improvement is route planning that includes suggested charging stops. They just pushed out an OTA update to address that last week, but I have not taken a trip long enough to test it out yet.

we rented a tesla in HI 6 months ago, also cheapest option... from hertz.
hotel charged it for us overnight a couple of times. no extra $$... went to drop off at the airport, only had 65% charge? Total cost for "refueling" was $6. Big whup.
I think if you are renting an EV, maybe need to have a discussion about what the "refuel" costs are -- might be minimal..

Not my opinion - I've never driven or even ridden a Hyundai/Kia EV. This is just what I've read on Reddit from a number of Hyundai/Kia EV owners. They mostly love the car but not the software, especially those owners who are previous Tesla owners.

In Europe, there is a 'green' choice - at rental agency, via Uber etc.
i rented a Model 3 through Turo in June. As a Volt owner who has always idealized Tesla I was not as blown away as i thought I would be. I was in the northeast so chargers were not hard to find. Still, the features I did like about the Tesla can pretty much be found on most modern cars.
As both a Volt and Tesla driver, I concur that the Volt has a lot of the key features of a Tesla except far-shorter range and no software updates.
The Tesla is also quicker. Not that the Volt is a slouch, but the Tesla (even the low-end Model 3) has some real oomph.
What makes Tesla best-in-class right now is the entire package.
