I am happy with Security Spy and wifi cameras of my choosing. My brand of preference lately is SV3C.

I haven't found this to be the case (about the cameras not deterring theft). Like davemchine, I have Ring cams and it has visibly/noticeably deterred the thieves. In at least one case, it also enabled me to help law enforcement catch the thief (and to encourage them to do so).
I've actually never used the OS X program to which davemchine is referring -- I've always just used the phone app, which has been fine.
As you all know, I had also been considering the Ring car cam, but I agree that it's way overpriced for the features.

After trying, blink, ring and some other brand I don't remember, I have found Eufy (Anker) to suck the least.
New S220 is solar powered making it fully wireless.

I've have several Wyze cameras which I used to think were good but lately the Playback feature has been really flakey and would not recommend.

I use Reolink cameras. They connect to WiFi and can run off batteries or solar.

I can vouch for Ring cams and the Ring alarm system. I chose them because of variety of products, features, ease of configuration, overall reliability and price for video storage and central station monitoring. Dollar for dollar, Ring is tough to beat. I configure/view devices via the phone app and via the web. Had no idea Ring offered an app for desktop machines.
And, that's the thing. You may start with just cams but might choose to integrate other products into the mix. These days, I wouldn't want just cams. I'd want a full scale home security/protection setup. This includes cams, a burglar alarm system, leak detectors and smoke/carbon monoxide detectors.
With Ring, you can customize the system easily and central station monitoring isn't a requirement. For some, notifications alone are sufficient. It all depends on where you live, what type of home you have and what you want in the system.

For the record, WyzeCam V3 is IP65*-rated for outdoor use, so enclosures may not be necessary.
*IP65 = "Dust-tight No ingress of dust; complete protection against contact (dust-tight)."
*IP65 = "Water projected by a nozzle (6.3 mm (0.25 in)) against enclosure from any direction for at least 3 minutes shall have no harmful effects."
