The ratchet was invented and patented in the US. Re: Friggin USPS - Acer - 01-17-2025 I have sent or received about 100 packages via USPS in the last year as part of my hobby/side gig. None have been significantly delayed. YMMV. What I have had is people sitting on a package for many days until finally hauling their backside to the post office. If you prefer, you can think of the ratchets in metric countries as 6.35mm, 9.53mm and 12.7mm. I'm sure manufacturers don't want to make 2 different types of ratchets and sockets for different countries. Re: Friggin USPS - special - 01-17-2025 Speaking about imperial and metric nuts and bolts… there was a guy restoring a very old Rolls Royce Engine new old stock from WW2 that he mentioned that some of the screws were not imperial but rather some “English” system. Was there a direct system in England that was neither imperial nor metric? Re: Friggin USPS - macphanatic - 01-17-2025 special wrote: Whitworth. And just to make things more interesting, for threaded screws and nuts below about a quarter inch there is also the British Association threads. They use a thread form that is different from Whitworth, US Unified or ISO metric. They went obsolete in the 1960s, but can still be found on older equipment such as gauges. Also British Pipe Thread is used internationally for plumbing, but not in the US where NPT is used. Re: Friggin USPS - Robert M - 01-17-2025 mrbigstuff, I sent a USPS Priority Mail letter to my brother-in-law on January 13, 2025. It's going from a location in Nassau County, NY (on Long Island) to a location in the Bronx, NY. The distance between the locations is 22 miles or so. Not only has the USPS _not_ delivered the letter yet, it's going from Nassau County to the Bronx by the way of Indianapolis, IN. No idea when the USPS will actually deliver the letter. Glad it was nothing urgent. Robert Re: Friggin USPS - special - 01-18-2025 I had in town, small town, Christmas cards that took two weeks. |
