I think most people just don't think their actions through to the end. They are fixated on one solution, and it doesn't occur to them to question whether that solution is the best choice for the situation.

If it's same as is now - no reason it should been.
On the topic - our local USPS just started staying open an extra 2 hours to compete with the mailboxes,etc across the street from them... only problem, no one seems to know that yet.
Old habits die hard too.

I knew two guys who started their own mailbox store and for the first several months, they would take their letters and packages to the blue mail boxes on the corner at 5:00.
That was 1981. They've made millions since with 1st-class presorting.
