Re: "Movie stars. Is there anything they din't know?" - spearmint - 05-21-2007 I have to agree about Clinton being a great President? Yikes! Difference between the Cowboy and Arkansas Billy was that Ron was sincere. Clinton was glib not great. Re: "Movie stars. Difference between the Cowboy and Arkansas Billy was that Ron was sincere. Clinton was glib not great. A California cowboy? Must be from the same family of "cowboys" as the New-England born, Ivy-league educated one currently in the White House. Anyway, your (simplistic) argument was that Reagan gave great speeches, therefore he was a great president. I was just pointing out that by that criterion, Clinton was as well. And you actually believe that ANY politician is sincere? Minty, people like you inspire the most intense nocturnal emissions in Karl Rove. He could get the anti-Christ elected if there were more of you. Re: "Movie stars. Is there anything they din't know?" - Silencio - 05-21-2007 Ronald Reagan has many audio tapes, CD's, books and DVD's recounting his great speeches. I don't think I can say the same about any other president. I see your Reagan and raise you a JFK. Re: "Movie stars. Is there anything they din't know?" - spearmint - 05-21-2007 JFK was good. An honest man except for his Bay of Pigs unbelievable betrayal. Cuban people have paid the price since then. Kennedy was much more of a Republican than Nixon. Biggest tax cuts in US History. The resulting economic boom proved the Laffer Curve. Too bad about John's dad and family. He had some good speeches but nothing like the Communicator. Ron stunned people with his eloquence. Brought hope with him. He was sincere. He was beloved and still is. Taking shots at him makes no sense. Silly to try and insult one of the greatest ever. You have no reason. What did he do bad? The Commies were not on the verge of collapse when Ron got in. They were just as evil as ever. Reagan kept raising the stakes again and again with our defense made them finally cower and give up . Bye, bye wall. Too bad Putin is cranking the Cold War and tyranny up again. Re: "Movie stars. You keep claiming this as if it is a fact. It is not. There are reports dating from years before the 1980 elections on the problems the Soviet Union's economy was having. It was falling apart under its on weight already. Their involvement in Afghanistan helped speed it up as the folks back home starting seeing all those funerals and problems not taken care of at home because the money was being spent on that war. All Reagan's administration did was cause it to happen before the '80's ended instead of of 10 years give or take a few later. As for Putin, the problems caused by the fast fall may have set up conditions for him and his like to take back power. Re: "Movie stars. Is there anything they din't know?" - spearmint - 05-21-2007 Some of my father's family was freed by the Fall of the Wall. Sorry I do not see that happening without Reagan. Poverty, cruelty and hopelessness at the end without Reagan? You betcha. How can you can you place the current increasing cruelty on Ron? Putin being set up by the fast fall is silly. It was a long time ago. We were supposed to calm down and go easy on them? Putin is just more evil being spewed by the Kremlin who live on evil and suffering that defies any humanity. I hope we never go to war with China or Russia but they sure seem to be heading that way. Re: "Movie stars. Is there anything they din't know?" - JoeH - 05-22-2007 As an example, when did Poland exit being under the Soviet umbrella? That started from events beginning in the late '70's. Events were also happening in other parts of the Soviet dominated Eastern Euopean bloc. As for some of your father's family getting out after the Wall fell, good. So did a number of my relatives. I also had friends growing up who were children of Czech ex-pats who managed to get out after WW II before the USSR had closed off travel west. I don't place the blame on Ronnie, just state that the circumstances he helped create partly led to the rise of Putin and his ilk. The Russian economy fell apart so fast, that rebuilding it took too long under the more moderate leaders. Some of them were corrupt, but others just did not have the tools or time to put it all back together. So the people looking for security are trying out the hard-liners. As for a long time, it has only been 18 years. Re: "Movie stars. Is there anything they din't know?" - spearmint - 05-22-2007 Don't place the blame on Ronnie?? Where are you coming from? He did the job in a classy fashion like everything he did. I feel sorry for you not being able to enjoy the thrill of what he did. Twenty years later you have criticism? Sad. Re: "Movie stars. Is there anything they din't know?" - Effin Haole - 05-22-2007 It took you 4 tries to get that pablum puke typed out? Sad indeed! Re: "Movie stars. Is there anything they din't know?" - JoeH - 05-22-2007 'Minty can feel as sorry as he wants to, his arguments are pretty sorry as it is. I don't feel at all sorry about not feeling a thrill from Ronnie Ray'gun's 8 "wonderful" years in office. Since I have been paying for it for the last 20 years or more, and my sons will also be paying for those pre-alzheimer's "I don't recall" answers to the questions about Iran-Contra and the like actions. I do feel sorry though for those like 'minty who bought the act hook, line and sinker. Ronnie may have been "sincere" in his beliefs, but that does not make them correct. |
