And your first considerations of it "you're especially messy, or you have some sort of mental illness" says more about you than your neighbors. And that suggests a number of things. Folks like Rammy rarely self-disclose because of a deep-seated fear of being ridiculed and feeling vulnerable (probably due to childhood experiences we best not get into), so they get jealous when others are willing and able to do so. It may even be great exercise.
