Re: Advice on extending wireless range / router recommendation - N-OS X-tasy! - 09-02-2008

[quote lafinfil][quote BigGuynRusty][quote lafinfil]OK - here's the deal. My neighbors daughter is in town for about 4 or 5 months taking classes at the university
and I am trying to hook her up to my DSL so she can study from her moms house. I cut out the boring part.
Short explanation.
Hot Chick, need to keep her close.
Nuff Said!!

Well since her mom (my neighbor) is in her mid 80's her daughter is in her early 60's and has kids my age.
she's more in your league, old timer.
Another example of Rusty putting his foot into his mouth as a result of jumping to an incorrect conclusion. BAH-HAH-HAH!!!

Proceed with your fantasies and general blabbering. LOL!!
My current GF's are 28, and 32.
Also, shouldn't forum admins be a little less derisive?

She's here finishing a Masters of Nursing degree so she's a bit busy. You would have to come up
with a home w/ acreage in upstate NY and the ability to physically work the land and a personality because
her husband has that already but he's pushing 70 so there;s still hope for you.

It's called helping out a good neighbor - I'd explain but you wouldn't get it.

BTW - my hot neighbor already has DSL. I already got her hooked up last year.

Proceed with your fantasies and general blabbering.
????
Just looked like a friendly, meaningless quip to me.

Yes, CRusty tries to dish, but he can't take it coming back . . . Only a one-way player of no value!

unfortunately i don't think your options at a brick and mortar store will be very good. as far as they're concerned, a router is a router.

Any thoughts on this D-Link draft N ? http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8305568&type=product&id=1173577562535

For $50 I'm thinking it would be worth a try (also available locally)

Any D-Link fans ? Good or bad ?

D-Link makes good stuff that works well.

Re: Advice on extending wireless range / router recommendation - anonymouse1 - 09-02-2008

Get the linksys or Buffalo--with the dd-wrt software, you can crank up the output power to extremely high levels--much better than N. That said, if you need to, say, stream video, you should get the N. Otherwise, get the linksys or Buffalo--Linksys is cheaper than Buffalo, IRRC. Also, there are some Linksys models that won't run the dd-wrt software.

Everyone has skipped over antennas so far. I have Buffalo routers in bridging mode between my house and office (across the street from each other). Putting an exterior antenna on the router at the office helped signal strength tremendously (the router at the house is sitting in the windowsill facing the office, with just the interior antenna).
