Re: Screaming window contractor - Jack D. - 09-02-2008 I had a plumber like that once. He pulled my gas stove apart and then disappeared. HE got pissed when i finally tracked him down and told him I needed a stove to cook my Thanksgiving dinner. He kindly offered to come over immediately to kill me because I bothered him at home during Thanksgiving. Paying customers are so demanding and inconsiderate during the holidays, he's lucky I didn't beat him to death with his pipe wrench. Re: Screaming window contractor - Black Landlord - 09-02-2008 I meant lafinfil aka Mr. DIY could install them. I think in many cases the contractor personality thing is a disdain of people in general. Re: Screaming window contractor - Black Landlord - 09-02-2008 [quote Jack D.]I had a plumber like that once. Thought I'd stand my ground a bit this time- I guess I instinctively knew I'd get Mr. Hyde though. Re: Screaming window contractor - Jack D. - 09-03-2008 If you do need any help standing your ground, i can lend you Woody. He's pretty mean when you wake him from his nap but you could just wait til the window guy is there before you do. ![]() Re: Screaming window contractor - AlphaDog - 09-03-2008 Adorable. ![]() Re: Screaming window contractor - ka jowct - 09-03-2008 I hope I never have to deal with a contractor. It seems like a business that attracts crooks; but I suppose there must be quite a few who are basically honest, but overestimate how many jobs they can take on and complete in a timely fashion. I have been working for myself for a couple of years, and can't see what I could possibly have to gain by treating people rudely or taking on more than I can safely or properly handle. Re: Screaming window contractor - Black Landlord - 09-03-2008 I think I'd prefer a crook. A crook I could pursue legally and feel good about it. Re: Screaming window contractor - Don C - 09-03-2008 The independent contractors I've dealt with mean well enough but just don't have the discipline to follow through on the promises they make. As noted, there is a reason these guys don't have "regular" jobs. Our kitchen remodelling that was supposed to take 4 weeks took 7 months, including the Christmas and New Year's holidays without our main countertop. My wife won't talk to the guy to this day! Re: Screaming window contractor - Racer X - 09-03-2008 I know a few excellent contractors. I will never divulge their names or contact info, as they are way too busy as it is. A contractor looking for work isn't that good. Work should come looking for them. Re: Screaming window contractor - wurm - 09-03-2008 You mean for once in my life I've been lucky? We're batting .1000 on the contractors we've hired for work on our house. And there have been several. |
