I guess what I was really trying to get at is how does McCain get out of this now? He appears to be between a rock and a hard place.
I guess I am just wondering why McCain did this. IMO, I think he is a better debater than Obama. He always appears solid and forthright and decisive even if he is wrong IMO. Security and foreign policy should be McCain's strong point. Why is he trying to mess up the debate he has the best chance of winning? The first debate is so important, first impressions and all that. By the third debate, everyone is sick of them and the candidates.
I think people have high expectations of Obama. When he is reading a speech, he comes across well but when answering questions he sometimes has this stuttering/hesitation pattern. He appears to be stumbling on his answers. I thought McCain sounded better at the Saddleback Church forum than Obama.

Maybe, McCain really thought he should be in Washington for this. It is possible that it wasn't just political grandstanding. I don't know. He also may have thought that it wasn't going to be a big deal if the debate was moved a few days further out.

Anything is possible but I don't think it was probable in this situation. And I really thought he looked unwell yesterday when he was making his announcement to suspend his campaign. Maybe he just needed a good night's sleep. Campaigning is grueling.

I've been wondering the same thing since I've seen the recent photos of him. Maybe he's gotten some bad news about his health, realized that he can't in good conscience saddle this country with a President Palin and is deliberately trying to throw the election.
Just a thought.

You would think all the Obama supporters would be happy if McCain doesn't show up. Just think how much mileage they can get out of it. They can say he is afraid to debate, that he is too ill, old, sick, whatever, or all of the above. Then when the debate happens a short time later, assuming the world actually doesn't end, Obama can make the old, ill, sick, scared guy look really bad, and that will seal his election. What's the problem?
So when the White house red line rings at 3 AM, will President McCain ask the Premier to call back later or will the Premier get to leave a voice mail message?
