Flashback to 1998 when I had to transfer from the Centris 610 to the brand spanking new 350 iMac, not all the transfered stuff worked. Seems like a century ago . . . oh! It was.
For instance your 500 will not run OS 8x or earlier. Better kick the RAM up to at min 256, 512 better. Be ready to reinstall some applications from disk, printer, MS Office, Appleworks, browsers etc.
