Yes, we are in CA. I think the enclosed box placed beneath the machine is a back-up. So we are alright.

In Michigan it is illegal to have cell-phones or cameras inside the voting precinct.

I'm pretty sure it's so that you don't take pictures with cell phones. The signage did say "no cell phones", however, but a few of us in line had them, some were talking on them.
