Re: Obama becoming "Elitist" ??? - Mac-A-Matic - 11-21-2008 It's not like he went to public school. In fact, Obama went to the most elite school on O'ahu: Punahou. And before some of you start whining: Punahou is BETTER than 'Iolani, and light years beyond Kamehameha. Re: Obama becoming "Elitist" ??? - incognegro - 11-21-2008 how many homes does he own? how many do the McCains own (if they even know)? Re: Obama becoming "Elitist" ??? - Stizzealth - 11-22-2008 Why does it matter? Re: Obama becoming "Elitist" ??? - swampy - 11-22-2008 The liberal progressives around here think being rich is a bad thing, Stizz. They love to bring up class and race issues to defend their points of view. They would love to wrap the Republicans in a coat of guilt. They seem to forget that there are rich Democrats that may own more than one home, but that's okay with them, because they are rich Democrats. It's only a bad thing when Republicans own more than one home. They want to spread the wealth around so that everyone is rich, but out of the other side of their mouths they condemn rich people. I really don't understand the double speak. This is dated material, but I doubt that much has changed... http://direland.typepad.com/direland/2004/09/strongtoo_rich_.html Of the top six on the Richest list, five are Democrats. The wealthiest person in Congress is, natch, the Democrats' nominee for president. Kerry and his wife "are worth, by conservative estimates, at least $900 million and possibly as much as $3.2 billion." (That's the estimate from the L.A. Times inquest into the John-and-Teresa fortune). The article goes on to list other 'rich' Dems.. John Corzine (D-NJ), Herb Kohl (D-Wisconson), Jay Rockefeller (D-West Virginia, Nancy Pelosi (D-California), Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D-Connecticut), John Edwards, (D-NC). Ted Kennedy (D-Mass) just to name a few. And that doesn't include all the advisors, appointees and hangers on. Re: Obama becoming "Elitist" ??? - mikeylikesit - 11-22-2008 Being wealthy and representing the interests of the wealthy are not the same thing. Re: Obama becoming "Elitist" ??? - swampy - 11-22-2008 More power to those who represent the interests of the wealthy, Mikey. Have you ever gotten a job where you pay check comes from poor person? Didn't think so. Re: Obama becoming "Elitist" ??? - Wags - 11-22-2008 Actually, a significant portion of my "pay check" comes from poor people, directly. That would be true for a lot of folks in the service industry. Re: Obama becoming "Elitist" ??? - mikeylikesit - 11-22-2008 I write my own paycheck and have for the past 30-years, how about you? Re: Obama becoming "Elitist" ??? - swampy - 11-22-2008 Yeah, me too, Mikey. Aren't we the great entrepreneurs? LOL What do you do, Wags? If I may ask. Re: Obama becoming "Elitist" ??? - Wags - 11-22-2008 I own a few taxis, lease most of them out and drive a few shifts myself every week. Being self-employed the fares I receive while driving are my paycheck. A significant portion of my clientele are poverty level and cannot afford to own a car. They take mass transit most of time but sometimes need to take cabs. Also there are a lot of elderly people who take cabs and many of them would qualify as poor. Other people in the service industry, like waiters, get part of their "pay check" directly from poor people. Obama is clearly not from the wealthy elite class, this is fact no matter how much you'd wish it otherwise. |
