Re: Where is the President-elect? - JoeH - 11-21-2008 As he has already pointed out, we get one president at a time. Obama has stated some of the things he would work on after getting in office in January if steps taken between now and then are not sufficient. But until then, he has no official status as President-Elect. Some of his staff are talking with congressional leaders, not much more they can do at this point in time. In 1973, just after he'd begun his thrice-weekly column, Barnicle quoted a Boston gas station owner as making a racial slur at the height of the city's busing crisis. The man sued. In 1982, he was awarded $40,000 after a judge ruled that Barnicle had "interlineated" his notes. In English, that means the judge suspected the racist bits were penciled onto the pad after the fact. Re: Where is the President-elect? - mikeylikesit - 11-21-2008 ... and just how much time would you allow yourself if you were taking over administration of an enterprise the size and complexity of the US Federal government? His job now is to lay a foundation for management, something the current guy never bothered doing. He's not yet President and should be working in the background, not out there feeding raw meat for partisan hacks to raise hell about. Re: Where is the President-elect? - Dennis S - 11-21-2008 He had a press conference basically saying we had one president at-a-time. He's working on his staff and cabinet. What more do you want? If he does talk, he'll get slammed for jumping the gun and overstepping his boundaries. Re: Where is the President-elect? - StarGlazer - 11-21-2008 Also, Obama is a student of Lincoln, who carefully avoided any comment or action until he was inaugurated. Re: Where is the President-elect? - Black Landlord - 11-21-2008 Hey, let's not forget-- we can now add "not muslim enough" to the list! http://www.smh.com.au/news/world/obama-a-house-negro-says-alqaeda/2008/11/20/1226770648951.html Re: Where is the President-elect? - lafinfil - 11-21-2008 OK - If it's not facetious then it is naive Re: Where is the President-elect? - PeterB - 11-21-2008 Oy. Isn't it enough that we have people bothered by him using the term "Office of the President-Elect" and the domain change.gov ? http://forums.macresource.com/read.php?2,600351,600351#msg-600351 ... you can get angry at him for overstepping his bounds, or angry for him not overstepping them, but NOT both. Re: Where is the President-elect? - vision63 - 11-21-2008 Obama says we only have one president at a time. |
