Yes, I pick them up and save them for a rainy day. You can average about 3.50 a year. Every little bit helps.

I'd like to know why people pick on the old penny so much. What's the big deal? I'm with Sam - I'll stop and pick up one from the street or sidewalk. If you don't like carrying them, just leave them in a jar to accumulate or put them in those little dishes by the cashier in many stores.

I have a plastic pretzel barrel half full of pennies and nickels. On special occasions my grand kids can dip their hand in and keep what they pull out. I remember when I was a kid their was a show where the kids could dip into a penny bowl, a nickel bowl and a quarter bowl, can't remember the show but all I wanted to do was get at those bowls.

In the next year, when we're all scrounging the public fountains and couch cushion cracks for a "living wage," the penny will be our friend. Plus, with deflationary pressures, pennies are worth more every day!

I don't need any pennies either, have none in my pockets at all. They are full of cents.
Maybe if I was going to the UK I would have some use for pennies. :biggrin:

Hungary dropped their 1 and 2 forint coins early this year. roughly 1/2 and 1 cents US as of October for comparison.

I think the US Mint is putting out some special Lincoln Cent issues next year in celebration of the bicentennial of Lincoln's birth, so we're probably stuck with them for at least another year.

I'll let go of the penny when the gas stations finally stop using the 9/10 of a cent to designate gas prices.
