Re: Does it bother you that Madoff is a Democrat? - swampy - 12-17-2008 Silly me. It only matters when it is a conservative that listens to Rush and totes a bible. Seems we had a thread here at one time where folks were tring to convince me that Republicans tend to be more guilty of scandals and this is one big whopping scandal. Somebody posted a big long list of Republican offenses. So, I just wondered if it mattered or not. We all think he's disgusting, and merits a kick in the nards. Re: Does it bother you that Madoff is a Democrat? - mattkime - 12-17-2008 I think you're confused between people who are party members by profession and do something wrong and people who do something wrong and have party affiliation because its frequently part of being a citizen. Re: Does it bother you that Madoff is a Democrat? - davester - 12-17-2008 You're confused swampy. If there's a discussion about POLITICIANS, then their POLITICAL party affiliation is generally worth bringing into the conversation. If there's a discussion about someone in another line of work, it's irrelevant (e.g. Do you care about the political affiliation of a baseball star if he's involved in a drug scam?). It boggles the mind that you don't seem to understand this. Re: Does it bother you that Madoff is a Democrat? - swampy - 12-17-2008 "Do you care about the political affiliation of a baseball star if he's involved in a drug scam?" Then why does baseball become political, or football, or any other aspect of private business. Congress just has to stick their nose in and investigate when some player does steroids. It's all political. Re: Does it bother you that Madoff is a Democrat? - lafinfil - 12-17-2008 Actually in the case of baseball it is because MLB is granted an antitrust exception and since they participate in interstate commerce congress reserves the right of oversight. Re: Does it bother you that Madoff is a Democrat? - Dennis S - 12-17-2008 Well, the SEC might have figured this out, except that the Republicans are so anti-reguglation and have probably neutered it. Re: Does it bother you that Madoff is a Democrat? - mattkime - 12-17-2008 >>Then why does baseball become political, or football, or any other aspect of private business. What happens on the field is rarely political. What happens off the field isn't exactly sport. Re: Does it bother you that Madoff is a Democrat? - dmann - 12-18-2008 It bothers me that he is a criminal that has stolen from charities and trusting people. Since he isn't a politician, his political beliefs are of no importance to me. DM Re: Does it bother you that Madoff is a Democrat? - NeverMind - 12-18-2008 davester wrote: No it doesn't.
