Getting a little off topic but I don't think the products are weak at the high end, just expensive.
The problem is the only high-end machine Apple sells uses a quad-core Xeon--two of them usually. Xeons are very expensive CPUs. And the RAM they use is expensive too. Just go to Dell.com and pick out a Xeon machine if you don't believe me. It will probably be at least as expensive as a Mac Pro.
The Hackintoshes are much cheaper because they use standard non-server-class CPUs, motherboards and RAM. Obviously and unfortunately, Apple doesn't currently sell anything like that.
