Wow, this all seems like such a PITA. I've never used Mail that much, mainly sticking with Entourage. Entourage certainly isn't perfect, but I've never had these kinds of problems with it.

This sounds similar to the problem I had when moving from a G3 iMac to an Intel iMac. The simple manual conversion wouldn't work
