Just do both.

I figger a bit of errant toothpaste on the floss from brushing first won't hurt operations any.

There are two reasons to floss first -
1) by flossing first, it clears the space between the teeth, to allow the fluoride in the toothpaste to cover (& penetrate & toughen) all tooth surfaces.
2) It feels better - fresher when you do it this way. (More noticeable when using a minty toothpaste) Try it both ways, do it the way you like. Most important thing is that you do floss and brush. My (not unbiased) opinion is that flossing is more important than brushing.

There is one reason to brush first - that is because some dentists teach it that way. One dentist told me that the reason (some) teach brushing first then flossing is that it would be contradicting their earlier teaching to brush (only) - before flossing became 'known'. Said contradiction could lead to loss of face -
yes, this was in Asia.

I have not heard any other reason to brush first.

Stuart.

Definitely floss first. I also have those deep pockets between my teeth, so brushing is more effective once they are cleared out a bit. Smile

Brush - floss - brush

What a bunch of overachievers, especially rgG! Let's get real now, floss several times a day? What are you...miss goody two shoes? I hate flossing. It's all I can do to floss daily (though I sometimes blow it off). I do the supposedly illogical brush then floss. I'm not going to change. This is working for me and I don't want to upset the apple cart. I'm certainly glad that I see the dental hygienist every 6 months. The fear of her chastising me is enough to keep me flossing.

I tend to floss immediately after eating.

I can't stand food particles stuck betweeen my teeth.
one of those 'Monk' type deals.
