The "hidden city" loophole mentioned above has been pretty much eliminated. If you don't take both legs of an outbound stopover flight, your return ticket is null and void.
Of course, if you are only going one way, it can work out very well.

It doesn't make sense, but you can't really complain since the airlines are a highly profitable and well run busi....BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!
