Re: MAJOR HELP NEEDED!! Lost 6GB of photos!!! - n-fin-it n-tro-p - 03-28-2006 Unfortunately, I think most of you are missing the point. I have the files. They are physically there. I just can't open them. I don't need to try to exhume the files from the drive. Thanks for the tips though! Re: MAJOR HELP NEEDED!! Lost 6GB of photos!!! - The UnDoug - 03-28-2006 Can you put one of the picture files on the web for us to monkey around with? Maybe someone here can figure out what the problem is. Re: MAJOR HELP NEEDED!! Lost 6GB of photos!!! - rz - 03-28-2006 hate to say it, but it looks like the technical assistance suggested over at dealmac is better than what's given here. He posted this same question over there and, in my opinion, the advice given there was more helpful than here. Re: MAJOR HELP NEEDED!! Lost 6GB of photos!!! - 3d - 03-28-2006 Time to back up my HD when i get home tonight! Thanks for the reminder. http://forums.macresource.com/read/1/59551/59558#msg-59558 I wish you the best of luck dude. I'll keep my fingers crossed for ya. Re: MAJOR HELP NEEDED!! Lost 6GB of photos!!! - blusubaru - 03-28-2006 I get your point, the files are there. I had this same thing happen with my 50gb music drive once (had it backed up though). I was able to recover every single file, however they were unplayable. Wherever two files resided next to eachother in a block on the hard drive, they were fused together in recovery and were worthless. There is no way to repair this that I know of. Re: MAJOR HELP NEEDED!! Lost 6GB of photos!!! - PeterB - 03-28-2006 rz, I wouldn't say that. I think we're all going on the assumption that when he copied the files over, they got corrupted in the transfer. Chances are good then that he will not be able to modify the files in any way to recover them, as they're corrupted copies. If they are all corrupted (as they seemingly are, based on his description), I doubt that anything will be able to open them -- never say never, but I wouldn't count on it. So... I think we're all going on the assumption that since his copies are corrupted, his best bet is to attempt to recover the originals in an uncorrupted form. Re: MAJOR HELP NEEDED!! Lost 6GB of photos!!! - D-Rod - 03-28-2006 The only information that could be called helpful is the one that finally works! Dennis R Re: MAJOR HELP NEEDED!! That you can see the icon does not mean that the file - as you know it - is there. Re: MAJOR HELP NEEDED!! Lost 6GB of photos!!! - ATT - 03-28-2006 Did you already try to fix the corrupted files on your quicksilver? We are assuming that you have run diskwarriorr etc... on your quicksilver as well... Re: MAJOR HELP NEEDED!! Lost 6GB of photos!!! - mrbigstuff - 03-28-2006 sounds like Permissions Hell to me. I did this once and have still not found a suitable fix. my situation happened whilst transferring files from one computer to another. afterward, I saw that all my files were successfully (or so I thought) transferred over and I deleted the originals. something f**ked up happened to the files in the process and they would never open again, although all icons and file sizes were consistent and correct. one day I will deal with this again. |
