I have huge vents in the gable ends so I have a fair air flow. You also want no insulation in the soffits to help eliminate a cause of water dams. The baffles will help stop the insulation from vibration and wind settling into the soffits. Thanks for the tips - this building has no soffit (other than in the overhang at the front door, as I mentioned) ![]() In the picture above you may observe a narrow (< 1/2") opening behind the flashing. Not sure if this is intentional or just a poor job. There are one or two vents on the tile roof, midway between ridge and edge, similar to this Regarding water dams, this is S FL, so not much of an issue. However, being from the north originally, I do understand what you're saying and appreciate the input. Re: As long as I'm still up - mini rant on Home Despot - OWC Jamie - 09-18-2009 not even this ? ![]() your original posts said there were soffit vents so I assume the above - not knowing what to call those when there is no 'traditional' soffit. At least you got a decent job for a decent price - the first time. The one time I paid Lowes to sub out a new door aand two new storm doors installed the guy they sent managed to screw up all three jobs/doors. Lowes replaced the doors , but I still had to leave the house open with a house-sitter or take timeoff from work Then when it was done the trim work and shingle repairs was supposedly 'extra'. And that's it for conventional attic ventilation. ![]() The picture I posted earlier is the back of the building and, unlike more northern construction, the roof ends at the wall - that would cost extra to have an overhang (and give the owner a little sun protection in the house) and we all know the poor developers were going broke building quality houses in FL a few years ago. Re: As long as I'm still up - mini rant on Home Despot - tronnei - 09-18-2009 When I had my roof done in 2003 I got three or four bids. Home Depot was the highest, and came in twice as much as the excellent guy I hired. |
