Re: FedEx drops my new mini 2 feet - Jack D. - 09-23-2009 I wonder how many 'refurbs' have been refurbed more than once (2,3,4+) due to shipping or other DOA damage? That would be a fun number to know! Re: FedEx drops my new mini 2 feet - AAA - 09-23-2009 All packages are abused waaaay before they get to anyone. Re: FedEx drops my new mini 2 feet - RAMd®d - 09-23-2009 The retail box (not what one gets with a refurb) is a cute little thing. When I bought my current mini, I dropped by a friends house and set the box on the counter. Finally he and his wife asked what kind of computer goodie that was. "It's a desktop computer." They didn't believe me, so I had to unbox it there. Plain carboard, no frills box. 8" x 8" x 4.5" maybe - I don't have one around, just the foam packing guts from inside. Jeff I have bought two on the same day. They were both dramatically packaged differently, and they arrived a month apart. Re: FedEx drops my new mini 2 feet - IronMac - 09-23-2009 TWO feet? That's it? Hate to see what happens when you get a papercut. Black, the white box is about 10 X 10 X 6 so you should be able to fit it on the rear rack. btw, a paper cut at the cellular level takes 6 months to heal. Re: FedEx drops my new mini 2 feet - pRICE cUBE - 09-23-2009 Don't worry about the drop. I am pretty sure they abused it much worse when you couldn't see what was going on. ![]() Re: FedEx drops my new mini 2 feet - Zoidberg - 09-23-2009 I remember once, maybe 8 years ago, talking to my neighbor in my old neighborhood. He happened to notice a printout I had, and we got to talking about the Tektronix Phaser printer I used (which does kind of a waxy printout so the printouts have a texture). He said, "oh, so it worked, huh?" When I asked him what he meant, he said that he was at home when the delivery arrived, and he saw the printer fall off the truck and, what, about three feet onto the ground. Another time, just a few months ago, I ordered an external drive from OWC. It was delivered via UPS on a rainy day. They left the box -- completely uncovered -- on my front doorstep (we have no front patio, and I always open my garage on days when I'm expecting a delivery). I sent the pics to OWC Jamie but, long story short, I poured about a cup or so worth of water out of the box. Luckily, thanks to how OWC packages their drives, the drive box was still "suspended" above the water and only the inner box got some drops on it (which didn't seep through). Other times the driver either won't deliver it (waiting for non-rainy day), will put it in a clear trashbag, or will (gasp!) ACTUALLY CALL ME (my number's always on the label) to let me know he's got a delivery for me. Moral of the story is that the quality of delivery drivers varies wildly. And they're right; packages get abused incredibly before the guy gets close to your door.
