Wait, why do we observe it up here? Farmers in the valley who need the extra hour for planting?

No evening golfers ?

I rather doubt farmers reap any benefit from time changing, unless tilting the earth at the equator is involved.

Enough already.
Isn't it long past the time it used to end?
They need to move the date back.

Yes. and we just went the other way.

Let's all just use one universal time. Period.

If I or my employer needs me to be at work at 3 am universe time, the so be it. This concept of 'noon sun' is ancient and no longer needed.

Re: Daylight Savings Time - tenders - 10-27-2009

I like it the new way.

Re: Daylight Savings Time - Doc - 10-27-2009

The rationale for extending the date in the fall is to give kids a chance to trick or treat after school while there's still daylight.

With that in mind, I'd like to propose a modest change in the daylight savings rules: Suspend daylight savings time for every day of the year except Halloween.

Re: Daylight Savings Time - mrbigstuff - 10-27-2009

Isn't Halloween supposed to be spooooooooooooky?

I am enjoying the extra evening hour to finish some yard work and auto repair. I guess I'd better get cracking for the rest of this week.

Re: Daylight Savings Time - freeradical - 10-27-2009

The reason we have extended daylight savings time is due to retail sales. It seems that people shop more in the evening when it's still light out.

DEATH TO DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME

Re: Daylight Savings Time - lafinfil - 10-27-2009

See - you all made fun of us here because my state would not bend to the DST cabal

We would be the ridicule of news stories every year along with our AZ brethren that we were backwards
because we refused to fall in line and change the clocks.

Two years ago our stupid governor decided that we should join in with the rest of the world and adopt DST,
but instead of aligning with Central Time we aligned with Eastern. Now it is still light at 10:00 p.m. in the summer - brilliant !

BTW - because we made the change it allowed for a real comparison of the "energy saving" which turn out to be false.
It actually wastes energy to observe DST

Re: Daylight Savings Time - Buck - 10-27-2009

Just about everyone prefers more daylight in the evening.

MAKE DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME PERMANENT - all year round that is.

more daylight is definitely brilliant. sorry, i'm a light hog - the more evening light the merrier. i visited Anchorage once during the week of the summer solstice. weird but - ahhhhhhh. like Persephone I accept the oncoming dark season but i surely feel like i reenter the cave next weekend.
