Re: Growing Worry for Businesses: Old Computers - Chupa Chupa - 04-06-2006 It's not like business just toss the computers in the trash. Most major jurisdictions have recycling laws regarding hazardous waste. Obsolete computers are sent to facilities that strip down computers, printer, monitors and other old office equip and remove the hazardous and recyclable parts. The REAL PROBLEM is that local gov'ts generally make a poor effort to educate consumers how to recycle their obsolete hazardous materials. I needed to dispose of a dead 20" TV a few years ago and had to scrounge the city directory just to find out where I was suppose to dump it. I never did get to talk to a human and thankfully Office Depot was having a recycling dump promotion so I just took it to OD. I have since learned where the haz mat dump is, but it took effort. Re: Growing Worry for Businesses: Old Computers - ztirffritz - 04-06-2006 That is why we sold them to employees. It cost too much to dispose of them. If I can get someone to PAY me for my garbage I'd say we've come out ahead. Re: Growing Worry for Businesses: Old Computers - ADent - 04-06-2006 New computer every three years. Wish I worked there. Re: Growing Worry for Businesses: Old Computers - Zoidberg - 04-06-2006 "It's not like business just toss the computers in the trash." Uh, I've been at a number of these businesses. They do indeed just throw them in the trash. They get the low totem pole guy in the office to cart them down to the dumpster and toss them in. "New computer every three years. Wish I worked there." Easy. Start your own business. Like moi. Re: Growing Worry for Businesses: Old Computers - Sam3 - 04-07-2006 trtisho, I don't expect that there will be any for sale anytime soon because the sales manager mistook 2 a month for 2 a year in her budget. She's now scrambling for ways to get at least a few replaced, but it doesn't look like all of them will get replaced. My guess is the managers will have first dibs and we peons might get a remnant or two. |
