What I tell guys in mid-life, at work, is this...
drive a Miata and (used of course) Porsche Boxster back to back.
Then drive anything else.
At least you'll not kid yourself once you've done that.

Yep, $18K or $19K buys a LOT of used Miata. Low 20s will get you into an early Boxter (buy oy, the upkeep + ins. …)

Nope... Lived in MI since I was born in 1975... Voice of reason is telling to buy a POS for the winter and then buy a Mustang GT or Cobra as a second car. haa ha.

There you go! A winter beater, and the cool Mustang for the nicer weather.

But really, I've lived in MI all my life, and the roads aren't always bad in the winter. Sometimes the sun shines and the roads are dry! And what deckeda said, you've already had two Mustangs. You should have a pretty good idea what to expect.

You want the Mustang. You think buying a something else would be more practical.

The points you score for buying something practical will be short lived if you constantly talk about the Mustang afterwards. Your wife knows this (they know everything). She wants you to quit talking about the Mustang. The only way that will happen is if you buy it.

Her saying "buy it" is really a polite and expensive way of saying "shut up already".

She wants you to talk to her about how she looks beautiful. How you love her more today than 10 years ago. How gorgeous her shoes look. On and on...

Life is short. If it's something you really, really want; I say do it.

And afterwards, take your wife on a date and tell her how beautiful she is.

I'd ask what, if anything, the previous Mustangs brought to your life?
And what are you hoping another one will bring?
Let alone all the unasked questions.

Wife and I miss the 2002 Mustang GT... However, it sucked in the snow... It beat the crap out of me... The 5 speed sucks in rush hour... The list goes on and on... I heard the new styles drive and ride great. However, thinking a new Jetta with a triptronic would be just as fun most of the time. Don't need a ticket and don't need the extra insurance.

Found a broker that only deals with Volvo's and Subaru's... He's been servicing them for 25 years and can find me a deal. Going tonight to check out that 2008 Fusion SE Sport w/ my father to see if he see's anything I missed. It's $15K and a great deal and a nice car. Will see if I can get it for cheaper if I decide to go that route.

I'm only 34 so no midlife crisis here yet and I have 10+ vintage arcade games from the 80's in my basement to relive my youth! haa ha.

From my childhood perspective, as long as one of the parents has a larger vehicle then you can get a 2-door. My mom drove the station wagon and my dad had a 2-door. Kids are small and like climbing around in the back anyway.

Now from my adult perspective, I enjoy having the larger vehicle for myself. My wife is the one who likes the smaller sporty car. I value the utility a large cargo space provides, but just because a car has a lot of room doesn't mean it can be fun to drive, it's a lot more to do with how you drive it.

You have a vehicle that is safe when you take the kids - if you want the 'stang, buy it.

All very true, but unlike in our youth, these days parents buckle their kids in, and spacescape's are too little to do it themselves still. That means mom or dad gets to reach back there, and it's not fun.

Agree totally with everything in your post, but beware of the above. I did that once and "all of a sudden" leapfrogged from a 450Mhz iMacDV to a $3000 Dual 2.0 G5 PowerMac. You must use the power only for good, never for evil.
