I used to have "Mall of Georgia Apple Store" - which is a ways away, but thought it would
get a few double takes. Except for the guy from NY next door, I don't know any neighbors
so I don't know what was thought. It's only been since 2003, so it takes some time....

Oh... another fun thing to do -----

if you have extra routers (I've got 4 now, with various headaches,
that aren't in use) - plug them in and name them. Just don't attach
them to anything.

I had a "Free WiFi Porn" and some other goodies at one time, until I
moved everything into a different room.

I named ours using my stepson's football nickname.

Does "2WIRE330" count as creative?

there are only 2 houses really within wireless range of ours... not sure it matters

Excellent idea.
Buy some old a/b wifi routers for next to nothing; perhaps here on Free Monday?
One could practically write a book with wireless network names if one had a enough.

This would make a neat TheNerds gadget. Something that broadcasts wifi names, and isn't even a router. Perhaps have it broadcast your latest TWEET? Or, sequential lines from a poem. Or something else?

Ads? That's usually where the money is. Sell wifi network adspace. Boost the broadcast power (with a LEE NE AR amp!) and send it out across the city! (I know illegal)

Lots of ideas here. Just need someone at like a DealExtreme procurement department to hook us up.

jp, that is a CAPITAL idea!

I've got a couple of routers I can do that with!

I've posted this before, but I live in a highrise which is surrounded by other highrises, so I can see many networks at any given time.

I am 6 blocks or so from Wrigley Field, and there are at least a dozen named Wrigley, Cubs or GoCubs.

Some favorites:

Since we travel people always try to get on our network, especially at state/city parks.

We've named it "Get Your Own Internet!"
