Brown ran as an Independent not a Republican. We will see what side of the aisle he falls when he gets into office. He will be the junior senator for MA with little or no power once he gets to DC. He will be put on some obscure committees and a year from now people will be saying "Scot who?".

This is the latest spin to diminish his win. The man proudly said send me down there and I will kill this healthcare bill, Obama's signature issue. If you want to take comfort in him not being a real Republican be my guest.

I think the only reasonable conclusion that you can make is that:
1- Coakley ran a lackluster campaign. Brown did the community organizer / cheerleader thing.
2- Brown got serious support from the Republican party, presumptively in the form of funding. Coakley did NOT get that kind of support from the Democratic party until it was too late.
This election was NOT a vote on Healthcare. MA already has 'required healthcare insurance' by state law.

2. Incorrect - Brown got little support from the national GOP up until the last few weeks of the election when the polls started showing that he was closing the gap with Coakley. The national Democratic party apparently thought until too late that their efforts were not necessary.
As for the last, part of the vote for Brown was exactly that. He campaigned on being the one to work with the rest of the GOP Senators to kill the process towards national healthcare reform.

I guess I meant he ran LIKE an independent. He hardly uttered the words Republican . Good campaign stradegy in a Blue State. Coakley should have reminded the voters he was a Republican and would be following the Republicans in his votes.

Cloakley should've done a lot of things! A damp sponge could've run a better campaign.

TV ads and mailed literature of them (Brown and Bush and others)photoshopped together as if buddy/buddy.
Dunno if they were Coakley endorsed or not.
Never saw advertising on TV and telephone calls (especially Saturday and Sunday) like we were subjected to in my life.
Robophone calls from RNC + DNC , live calls from politicians , actors, actresses and sports figures.
sixteen 202 area code missed calls traced to political parties on Saturday.
this was just the 202 numbers I bothered to look up.
Pollsters talking to the answering machine telling they'd try again later.
Sunday late we got a really really nasty call berating Scott Brown with incredibly foul language, so (these kind of calls you never know who they really are endorsing, or if they are nothing more than some drunk )
Monday we unplugged the phone.
