Re: Steve RIP - New Guy - 10-06-2011

We lost a good one, not very often a person comes around and makes such a huge difference (in a positive way) in people's lives. He was the "real deal" and (of course) will be missed.

I forgive him now for the hockey puck mouse...

New Guy

steve jobs' vision certainly made a difference in our family's life. i can't imagine that we'd have all gathered around the ol' packard bell in 1990.

our sincerest condolences to his family and to all who share a feeling of loss at his death.

rip.

I haven't been this sad since Joe Strummer died :-(

I haven't been this sad since 9/11.

:agree:

I just returned from NH where we attended memorial services for both my brother-in-law AND father-in-law (separate events). My husband and I feel terrible that we shed more tears for Steve Jobs than we did for blood relatives.

If my experiences are any guide, it was probably tears for a combination of things. And there may have been good reasons to hold in your emotions when you were in NH. Don't ever feel ashamed about feeling emotion.

Good luck.

I only wish I could say that ;-(

I will say that this is the saddest I've felt for someone who died that
I didn't know personally. I wasn't this sad when Elvis or John Lennon died.

Re: Steve RIP - OWC Jamie - 10-06-2011

When the Red Sox won the World Series in 2004 my second reaction after about 2 seconds of elation was to hold back tears. My dad was a die hard Red Sox fan for at least 60 of his 72 years. He missed watching his team win by 8 months. I'm still a little angry he didn't get that. He deserved it.
Ends of eras are hard.

Washington Post: Steve Jobs and the idea of letting go.

This was the hardest part to read:

It was therefore an irresistible metaphor, in these final years, when the auditorium lights would go down and the crowd would go wild for Jobs, who increasingly greeted his followers and touted the latest neat, new thing even as he wore the look of a person who was not going into that future with us. He would be getting off here; we were to proceed without him into the unknown. Let it go and look ahead was the message all along.

I had to go out and meet with several clients today ... I made myself a little something to wear first.
