TiVos never appealed to me. Why spend $$ on a box, then either a $$$ for a lifetime subscription, or $$ as a monthly fee, other than the HD no upgrade options, can't do much else...

My custom built media PC is still chugging along just fine. Before too long I'll upgrade it and put a dual HD tuner in ($80) and it'll do HD. I'll probably upgrade the OS at some point too. But for now, it plays TV, DVDs, my media library, iTunes, Netflix, Hulu...

MAVIC: Because people don't want to mess about with an HTPC. They want a box that does it for them that they can put on their Best buy card.

I was trying to explain my own thought process.

I understand people love to blow money Wink

MAVIC: Also, you're interface on your HTPC isn't anywhere as nice as TiVo's.

I disagree. Friends have TiVos, so I've seen the interface quite a bit.

Here's a couple screenshots for comparison:

It's all about ease of use. I have a two TiVos and a Mac Mini (that I use as a HTPC). My wife loves the TiVos and hates the the Mini HTPC for the simple reason that it is cumbersome and not elegant like the TiVo. Eventually everyone will catch up with the TiVo, but right now nothing comes close.

Love my TivoHD for OTA.

Cable company DVRs are $20/month here.

Lent a friend an old Series 2 so they could dump both their cable DVRs (one non-DVR digital cable box is included in the monthly nut)

MAVIC: Thanks for the screenshots but I've actually navigated both those and in my opinion TiVo wins. Of course, that's just my opinion Smile

My wife has no problem with the MCE interface. I can understand why Mini would cause problems.

The TiVo interface is gimmicky, looks like it was designed by a Photoshop newbie...
