Re: Yikes ... those darned Texans are at it again... - DharmaDog - 02-28-2011 First, I'm not for guns on campus. But it seems like the assumption is being made that just anyone could legally carry a gun on campus. This isn't correct. To legally carry a gun on campus, one would have to have a concealed carry permit, which requires: * minimum age of 21 - this would rule out most undergrads * no felony convictions * no misdemeanor Class A or B convictions in the last 5 years * no DUIs (not sure of the time period) * no restraining orders in effect * no mental illness * no alcohol or chemical dependency * current on child support * safety and use training with a handgun * non-violent conflict resolution training * training in weapon use laws Of course, anyone could illegally carry a gun on campus right now. Re: Yikes ... those darned Texans are at it again... - Mac1337 - 02-28-2011 That list pretty much excludes all college students. Definitions 24 “Weapon” refers to any object or substance designed to (or which could be reasonably expected to) inflict a wound, cause injury, incapacitate, or cause death, including, without limitation, all firearms (loaded and unloaded, simulated and real), devices designed to expel a projectile (such as bb guns, air guns, pellet guns, and potato guns), electronic control devices such as tasers or stun guns, swords, knives with blades of 5 inches or longer, martial arts weapons, bows and arrows, and chemicals such as mace, tear gas, or oleoresin capsicum, but excluding normally available over-the-counter self-defense chemical repellents, chemical repellents labeled “for police use only” or “for law enforcement use only” may not be possessed by the general public. Note: A.R.S. § 12-781 is the Parking Lot Storage Law. So firearms can be kept in automobiles on campus.
