I was thinking Robin: mostly because the egg is blue but also because I know that Robins have voluntarily built nests on porches. Usually not that exposed of course, but it indicates they aren't as paranoid about being close to humans as we might expect.

Yep I was thinking Robin too, but I guess it also depends on where graylocks lives, and I would have thought that Starlings are more common?

I just had that sorta same thing happen to me.
Cut down some 25 foot bushes in the side yard, laying them down in the driveway so I could cut them smaller. one of the last ones had a nest in it, pretty small, but well built.
Showed it to the kids and said "hey look, an empty nest" -- they thought it was cool, youngest one is going to take it to show and tell.
They went inside and I started cutting through the pile and sweeping up the leaves -- got near the bottom and noticed a couple of yellow runny stains on the concrete -- ugh -- the eggs must have fallen out and broke when I laid the branch on its side.
Felt kinda crappy.

you might want to encircle it with something like chickenwire or whatever
dont feel bad if it doesnt work out
