Springsteen - yeah, fair, but not GREAT!

U2 - too

The Doors (yawn!)

the entire (yes, I mean all of it) universe of Rap/Hip-hop. It's boring and very limited.

Zappa is my hero, but only because my freshman college roommate forced it on me. I could always find the right zappa tune for the right person. (if ya really wanna know, PM me, tell me what you like and I'll find a zappa song you'll like - maybe)

Which Dylan are we even talking about?

Anyone who doesn't like Highway 61 Revisited or Blonde on Blonde needs their head examined.

The Beatles...

I understand the MUSIC... excellent music.

It's the "cult" of the Beatles I don't get. The fawning, the worship, the deification...

Great music.. but they weren't gods.

Not that this is my favorite genre either, but I would like to think there are intricacies that exist beyond the level of attention that many people are willing to devote to it. The same could be said for most any genre. So much content of the established genres may seem the same from a distance but if you can really get into it you may find it much more diverse.

They actually were at the time. Hard to imagine now, and believe me I have tried.

My musical taste is not very discriminating. Therefore, I like a lot of really bad music.

The Givers (new)

Florence and the Machine but I like the way she dresses Loved Katy Perry spoof (katy can't sing either)

Most "Rap" with a few exceptions along the hip hop / R& B leaning

I would too. I will admit to being taken by NWA (I think) music that was in Spike Lee's 'Do the Right Thing'. They lyrics were brash to say the least, (JFK was just another racist or something like that) and I understood then (and this was 20 years ago) that these guys were the Dylan of their time - saying very clearly, a message that rang so true then.

However, the music itself, is repetitive. I actually sat through that recent movie, "Hustle & Flow” and I was shocked at how uninteresting the music was. It was just plain bad imo.

Strictly speaking about musical abilities, among the famous and lauded pop/rock/folk/country musicians (performers or bands), are there any you just cannot understand what all the fuss is/was about?

I'll start the ball rolling (an incur the wrath of their faithful, no doubt) with Bob Dylan and Johnny Cash.

If you didn't know who was performing (a tough assignment, I know,) this would verge on the un-listenable, especially their "harmonies":

To "get" a musician, or understand what's the fuss, doesn't mean that you have to enjoy them. It's really not hard to understand why Dylan and Cash are more than just important to American music. Crucial, more like. If you watch No Direction Home, you'll get Dylan but I won't promise you'll like Dylan.

the_poochies mentioned Zappa: "unlistenable" to whom? Again, there is a difference between "getting" and "enjoying." I get Bjork, at least to the extent that I understand her talent and why a lot of people like her stuff, but I don't have any of her records.

I have to agree with Black on this one. The title of this thread should have been, "Musicians you just don't like."

.." but for some reason most other people do".
