I generally encourage my students to look for alternatives to the bookstore, IF they can. We do produce some university-specific stuff that they can't buy elsewhere... for example, we have a custom textbook for the intro biology course.

FAFSA was done months ago. school has yet to announce aid awards. no matter what the award we'll still want to be economical about all spending.
