Imagine how trapped these kids feel. There are over 60 division one football programs they could join if released from scholarship and signing requirements by Penn State.

Exactly. For instance the school I work at is moving to FBS soon and could use a few upper level recruits to fill out the roster.

Even if they got the OK to leave, imagine the uprooting and the logistics of finding another school and the NCAA waivers for the lost semesters just getting unhooked and finding a new school.

:agree:

Get some perspective Dennis! Some things* are much more important than a college students right to play football.

*just about everything

That's not fair. The students didn't do anything wrong and their lives would be uprooted. It's entirely appropriate to feel sorry for them if they get caught up in the aftermath of this crime.

The football program's destroyed. It won't be what these kids expected, were promised and signed up for. They shouldn't be required to play for a school under these circumstances. Release them all, those who want can stay, those who don't can move on.

Looks like more charges may be on the way for Sandusky. The grand jury is still investigating abuse allegations, some going back to the 1970's. Most child predators have over 100 victims in their lives, only 10 have been tied to Sandusky so far.

It's not going to be "Happy Valley" again any time soon.

I still don't think the NCAA is going to do anything. It would set a very bad precedent for them to punish current students and staff for non-football related crimes by former staffers. It puts blame in the wrong place.
As horrible as they are, these things are outside the purview of the NCAA.

I don't disagree that we should feel sorry for the students, but Dennis's post made it sound as though the disruption to these students' lives might actually be considered a reason not to shut down this completely corrupt program. To that I disagree completely. In fact, it might be a good lesson for all those connected to the program (many of whom, including the students, seem to be in complete denial) for them to find that this program really needs to be dismantled completely.

Life's not fair.
I learned that in college.

A different college.
