You can install it over just about anything. I installed it over the kitchen lino.... and over the plywood in the motorhome. Check it out, I think it's the best for the money and it has a lifetime warranty in non commercial use and 10 year in commercial use.:patriot:

That sounds very unusual. Perhaps there's another problem, or perhaps a cheap knock off product, or faulty installation. Laminate is a pretty standard and widely used low end kitchen and bathroom product.

Just a word about the cork floor. We put that in the kitchen, easy to install (it is a floating floor with snap/click instillation). It does not need to be sealed and it still looks new after 5 years of use. However, not cheap. I think it was around $6 a sq. ft installed. There are some relatively cheap hardwoods and some really cheap pergo like floors. Sheet vinyl can look great depending on what you choose (like make sure you have 12 ft.+ sheets to minimize seams). I love the cork. It has a "warm" feel and is quiet. Also, although marmoleum/lineoleum can look really good, it is not cheap. Around $4-5 a sq.ft installed.
