You need to do that (not an entirely easy task) and then rise above with your story and acting to push it to the realm of art. Re: just finished watching the Emmy's. Just because you achieve that, does not mean you please the audience or make a mark on their consciousness. To make that mark, in another words to have people discussing the meanings of your work, etc., as you see with True Detective, you must rise above the a simple suspension of disbelief and create something more.
