Is that your experience as well?

Pretty much.

I have VLC, QT 10.1, and Qt 7.6.

You want to play an h.265 file. Or a .flv. Or a DivX. Or an Xvid. Or a .wmv. And those are just the common ones. Maybe even an .ogx!

Or .mkv. But it won't do .ogg.

While QT is a more elegant app, VLC works better. It's very customizable compared to QT, as well as more useful.

One of the best thing about VLC is the UI. It integrates well with my Magic Trackpad, especially scrubbing and controlling the volume.

Well, and .mp4 files that are damaged can lay just fine on VLC. It is far more defect tolerant.

I have QT X, QT 7.6.6 and VLC. Both QTs are registered and Pro versions.

I've used it exclusively for many years. Like others have said, I've yet to find a video it won't play. Bonus for me is that it plays flac audio files as well. And you can create plasylists in it.

Huh, I didn't know it couldn't play a .ogg. I don't have any of those but I've seen them linked at Wikipedia on occasion.

And I totally forgot that QT can't play .mkv. Actually way back in the day that was the reason I sought out VLC after I started finding .mkv videos I couldn't play.

Safari natively handles .ogv files—no plug-in required.
