It also depends very much where you live. Where I live (SF Bay Area), houses cost a million bucks or more so $100k doesn't go very far compared to most places in the country.

My partner did. And immediately her ex husband got laid off for almost 3 years, and stopped paying child support. So I got the privileged of paying to raise her ungrateful kids while her ex blew his severance package in a single summer. Good times!
