I was completely underwhelmed. It'll be nice when some of those cool features trickle down to a device I actually have a use for.

very true papercup - I never would have thought of that...
the thing WILL work with Outlook. Mac professionals that have to use outlook might be creaming right now.
Seems to fit a long held apple pattern. v1 is monsterously expensive, but some will pay any price - why not offer EXTREME high price to start. Later, more flexable service will be offered, price reduced and sales will really begin to kick in.

The new iPhone aside, I'm curious why anyone has a standard land line these days. Been without for a couple of years now and it not only made financial sense but the convenience of just having a cell phone is great as well. Whether you're away on business or not at home if someone needs to contact you in an emergency. Want to order a pizza while out and about so you don't have to stand around for 20 minutes doing nothing while they make it. One of the things I firmly believe is that time is something you will never get back, so anything that allows you to make better use of it is always good. The convenience of a cell phone is one of those things (at least for me).
I welcome the iPhone... just want a better price.

People seem to forget that the moto RAZR was intro'd at the exact same price -- subsidized -- with a montrously crappy UI, and still sold like crzy.

Landline is necessary when, like moi, you don't have a signal at home.
Actually with one price all inclusive dialing areas so cheap nowadays, it makes sense to me to use landline at home.
I do use call forwarding to cell when away, but service is so spotty that I often don't get my calls. (see my other topic) http://forums.macresource.com/read/1/228189

I'm curious - if you added up the cost of an equivelant (sp?) iPod, an advanced-featured cell phone, and a 2-year mobile contract, what would you have to pay?
I think the conveinence of purchasing all of these things at once may appeal to a lot of people too. Of course, this assumes that everything works as advertised.

my biggest problem is getting in bed with cingular again for two years. that being said if it works really well i'm in.

Regarding Cingular service, the target market is going to be in major metro areas with good to great coverage.
