I don't like it.
A friend sends me stuff from them all the time.
Sometimes I click, mostly I don't.
I don't think it's a great place to dwell, based on what he's sent me, and the fact that many old folks feel it's where and how to 'reach' young people.

The government should be able to ban use by government employees, but to ban an app for everyone? At which point are we becoming a full censorship nation? If we allow Fox News, why did we ban RT? Should not people be well informed about caveats and then decide what to use?
Alternatively, I am all for EU-like regulations, where the public is being protected from everyone, not only from the players the government decides to censor at a particular moment in time while coddling domestic players.

Frankly, I think this is just innate racism and xenophobia, exacerbated by the fact that China is a pretty shitty country. But I don't think the danger is any worse than the danger we face every day from every other app in the world. Is it really worse for the Chinese to know you went to Kroger's than it is for Facebook, Twitter, Apple, Samsung, NextDoor, AT&T, Amazon, Walmart, and Candy Crush to know you went to Kroger's?
